The President signed the law on police

On August 4, President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law "On the National Police" (government bill No. 2822). This was reported on the website of the President.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on establishing the National Police on 2 July. The document defines the legal basis for the organization and activities of the National Police of Ukraine, the status of police officers as well as the order of service of the NP.

By law, the National Police is the Central body of Executive authority, which serves the public by ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms, combating crime, maintaining public order and public security. The NP activity directed and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers through the Minister of Internal Affairs.

"The law will enter into force during 3 months after publication, but some of the rules will be effective from 2017, and the rest in the day after publication. Until the end of 2016, the police will be allowed the use of official certificates, forms, seals, stamps, logos and emblems of the police and of the Ministry of Internal Affairs," explains the activist of the NGO "Community Development" lawyer Yury Tatomyr.
