Chess Tournament of "Memory of Heavenly Hundred and ATO Heroes" gathered about 200 participants in Lviv

Traditionally, in early spring, NGO "Rozvytok Hromady" and Lviv Regional Chess Federation organize intellectual battles in memory of the newest Heroes of Ukraine. This year, on March 1, the chess tournament was held for the fifth time, gathering 192 participants from different parts of Lviv region, as well as from Kyiv, Odessa, Rivne, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Starokostiantyniv.

Oleh Budnikov became the winner of the tournament with a score of 7 points, by tiebreak indicators. In total, seven grandmasters won the tournament. In addition to the main draw of the competition, the best chess players had the possibility to win in 7 additional nominations: "people with disabilities", "women", "oldtimers 60+" and 4 categories for boys and girls. The chess tournament was held on the basis of the Swiss system of 9 rounds, with the FIDE international ranking.

Moreover, there were the participants of Russo-Ukrainian war who took place in that tournament. Oleksander Sulypa, a coach of the Ukrainian chess team, also attended the tournament. Traditionally, before the competition began, a tree was planted in honour of the tournament.
