The memory of Ihor Kotsiuruba was honored in Lviv

On Sunday, September 29, the Memorial Day of the Patriot of Ukraine, a war participant, a public figure and a volunteer Ihor Kotsiuruba took place at the Military Church of God Presentation in Lviv

The memorial activities began with a prayer and a minute of silence, after that the memorial tablet dedicated to Ihor Kotsiuruba was blessed and installed on the monument of “Soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine”. Ihor was an initiator of that monument.  

After some time, the volleyball tournament after Ihor Kotsiuruba started which now will be held annually. There were eight teams that took part in the competition. The teams were judged by the knockout system. This year the winner was the team of NGO "Right Sector of Lviv Region".

According to the tradition, all presents were treated with a real Cossack kulish (edit. national Ukrainian dish) and fish soup. What is more, there was photo exhibition, dedicated to Ihor’s bright memory, at the event.

Ihor Kotsiuruba was born on September 11, 1965 in Luhansk region to a family of political prisoners who returned to Galicia. From childhood he lived in Chervonohrad, he was a deputy of the Chervonohrad Regional Council in the 1994-1998 cadence. In 1983–1985 he served in Afghanistan, and then entered the Lviv Polytechnic Institute, during the period of Perestroika poured himself into politics, actively participated in the formation and activities of the Student Brotherhood. He was in All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” (one of the founders, then left it), in PORA, in the “Right Sector”, in the Afghan Hundred. From the beginning of the Russian aggression till the end he actively assisted the soldiers as a volunteer. Ihor Kotsiuruba passed away on December 16, 2018.
