The day of mourning and honoring the memory of the victims of the war

NGO "Community Development" together with all Ukrainians honor the memory of all who died during the Second World War. We bow our heads in sorrow and hope that Ukrainian people will not go through such losses again.

On this day, on June 22, 1941, German soldiers invaded the Soviet Union, in which was Ukraine, so the Great Patriotic War started. The fighting lasted for 1,418 days, the war has gone down in history as the most cruel and the bloodiest in human history and claimed millions of lives.

Ukraine occupied an important place in the plans of the German command thanks to the rich raw material resources and fertile land. According to the plan "OST" Ukrainian lands were considered as living space for the German people and was intended for delivery products, to "the new Europe". People who then inhabited Ukraine were planned to be destroyed or evicted, and turned into slaves. However, German forces met unexpected resistance in our territory. The Ukrainians desperately gave their lifes for their people.

Each day, each hour and minute, people were dying. It is believed that the total demographic losses of the war were 26.6 millions. During this time, were killed a great number of Ukrainians, among the victims were more than 5 million civilians and about 3 to 4 million military. The war destroyed not one village, city or town. During the war many women became widows and children-orphans.

The day of remembrance of victims of the war was introduced by the decree of the President of Ukraine in November 2000, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. On this day Ukrainians remember all who fell in the war, who were tortured in concentration camps and in captivity, as well as those who were taken from their homes.

We remember the heroic deeds and sacrifices of our countrymen and will never be forgotten.
