The “Vyshyvanka's Day” was solemnly opened in Lviv

On the 10th of May, Lviv citizens going to work or walking the park Na valakh were able to see an unusual show - trees were dressed in colorful vyshyvanka's. With this gesture organizers tried to attract the attention of passers-by to the annual festival, which is important for every Ukrainian – Vyshyvanka's Day, which we celebrate annually on the 18th of May.

The “Vyshyvanka's Day” was celebrated in 2006 for the first time. Since then, every year, on the third Thursday of May Ukrainians from the whole world give a homage to own unique national symbol. When you dress the vyshyvanka, you don't only adorn your city with an amazing appearance, but also pay a tribute to traditions, show that you are a patriot and know own history.

The activists of the NGO “Community Development” decorated park trees with paper with embroidered ornaments. Almost every local tree was decorated with bright blue and red national clothes. Moreover, activists organized in the park a unique exhibition of embroidery elements. The meaning of the oak, octagonal star, square, circle, the tree of life or key on your embroidered shirt you can learn from the exhibits in the park. The “Vyshyvanka's Day” in 2017 was solemnly opened by band “Halychanka.”

“We want to create an idea of the vyshyvanka as something modern, trendy and interesting. Instead of the traditional and already familiar events, we came up with an original and interesting flashmob. So even trees in Lviv became patriotic. Elements of  the embroidery that now decorate chestnuts in the park, were printed on a thick paper which is proof to rains and winds. That event really attracted the attention of passers-by. We even did not expect that so many people would be interested in the festival. Many people did not even know about this holiday. Now, Lviv citizens, I am sure, will be interested in the “Vyshyvanka's Day” and will celebrate it with all conscious Ukrainians” - said Maria Vahila, the member of the NGO “Community Development”.

Moreover, social activists prepared to residents of the cultural capital and its guests many interesting and exciting events which we can enjoy during the 18th of May. For example, the representatives of the National Register of Records of Ukraine will record the 16 meters long pie called “Vyshyvanka”.
