The Parliament of Ukraine - Verkhovna Rada - prohibited Communist propaganda and National Socialist symbols

The relevant law was adopted on April 9, 2105. The Parliament with 254 votes "for" voted the bill "On conviction of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes and the ban of propaganda of their symbols" (N2558).

According to the law the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine are condemned. The order of liquidation of symbols of the communist totalitarian regime (renaming towns, institutions, etc.) is established; the state's duty is to carry out an investigation and disclosure of crimes committed by the totalitarian regimes.
 

"Propaganda of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes and their symbols is considered as the insult to the memory of millions of victims and has to be prohibited. The use of symbols in the name of totalitarian regimes is grounds for refusal of registration and termination of a legal entity, political parties, other associations "- the lawyer Yuriy Tatomyr noted.


Thus Criminal Code is supplemented by a new Article 436-1, which establishes liability for the production, distribution communist, Nazi symbols and propaganda of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes. Sanction - restriction / deprivation of liberty for a term of 5 years. If the criminal acts committed by representatives of government, again, an organized group or by using media – it provides imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with confiscation of property or without it.

It should be noted, that the President of Ukraine recommended to set Day of victims of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes.
