Mothers of children with special needs met with the activists of "Community Development" to discuss the major issues that accompany them and the difficulties they struggle every day.
A sick child is an incredible pain in a mother’s heart, these women came to the round table, organized by the NGO "Community Development". Complicated diagnoses, of their children definitely hurt their hearts, but at the same time, inspire for new achievements, which can facilitate a child's life in society.
Each of the women had the opportunity to tell their story and in absentia to meet activists and other parents with their special child. Among those present was the mother of Angelinka, girl with cerebral palsy, who recently participated in a course of hippotherapy, organized by the "Community Development". Tears of joy for the mother and the child have almost every participant of the event, when the woman reported the excellent news: "After hippotherapy Angelina began to walk; now she can go from one room to another". Considering that earlier the girl did not move, this success definitely changed the lives of the whole family.
During the conversation, rose a lot of current issues and problems faced by parents of children with special needs. In particular, it was discussed that the city, public transport, schools, practically, are not adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
"Climbing the stairs at school, I, in one hand carry a child who weighs more than twenty kilos and in the second a wheelchair, but imagine if you need to go to higher floors. Also every break I have to come to school, to accompany the child to the toilet, as the school has only one toilet adapted for disabled people, and it is situated on the ground floor," shared one of the participants of the round table.Pouring out her soul, the women discussed a variety of issues that concern them. Some of them have made several suggestions on how to make life easier for you and your baby and shared with groundwork, particularly in matters of cooperation with the authorities.

Activists of the NGO "Community Development", which already have engaged in the assistance to people with disabilities, by listening to the wishes of the participants of the roundtable, also told how they could join the solution to their issues. One important area of work that should be carried out with the parents had identified to be a legal support. After all, often the parents of sick children don't know about the rights and opportunities provided for people with disabilities, respectively therefore do not require from the government that, on what they have rights. Also very important for families in which a child was born with special needs, is a psychological support, leisure, recreation and communication.
Hearing the needs expressed by the mothers, present at the roundtable, NGO activists identified specific areas on which will start to work. Among the voiced needs of women are classes in the pool and hippotherapy, which have a great positive impact on their children, but unfortunately, not every family can afford this kind of rehabilitation. Also were discussed the possibilities to engage kids in physical development and to attend the wrestling section. The activist of the NGO "Community Development" Julia, Glova summed up the meeting and conducted a survey of the attendees on priority areas of work.
